Mary Jane Nicholas was born December 10, 1825 in Washington county near Caledonia, Mo; died at the home of her son, S. S. White, on Hog Creek, September 19, 1901 making her 75 years, 8 months and 9 days of age. One of Texas county's oldest and most highly respected ladies.
She was married to Jehu C. White in 1842 and from this union twelve children resulted - seven sons and five daughters. Of these five sons and one daughter are still living. Her husband was one of the prominent citizens of the county in past years, at one time represented Texas County in the Legislature, and in many ways took a prominent part in public affairs.
Mrs. White professed religion and joined the M. E. church, South, in 184? and was a faithful and consistent member of that church during the remainder of her life.
The remains were buried at the old White homestead on Hog Creek Saturday, in the presence of a large number of grieving relatives and friends. Rev. Lucy, of this city, conducting the funeral service. The Herald joins in the sympathy extended to the bereaved family.
