Berkstresser rites today
George W. Berkstresser 97, Belton, formerly from Versallies, died Thursday at a Kansas City hospital.
He was born July 27, 1875 in Versailles, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth Sheckler Berkstresser. On Feb. 21, 1904 he was married to Nellie Jane Smiley, who died Sept. 20, 1967.
Mr. Berkstresser was a life-long member of the Church of God.
Survivors include: Three sons, the Rev. Dwight Berkstresser, Crane, George Berkstresser Jr., Barnett, and Gregg Berkstresser, Raytown; three daughters, Mrs. Lois Russell and Mrs. Maude Sousley, both of Belton, and Mrs. Rhea Goetze, Stover; a brother, Oscar Berkstresser, Versailles, a sister, Mrs. Maude Grisier, Marionville; 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Services will he held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versallies with the Rev. Jim McKibben and the Rev. James Allen officiating. Burial will he in the Versailles Cemetery.
