Robert Eugene "Bob" Horner, 87, of Cassville, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, where he had been a resident for five years. He was born on April 6, 1925, son of Loren and Alma (White) Horner, at Cassville.

He attended school at the Horner rural school and later in the Cassville public schools. He served in France during World War II from 1944 to1945 as an infantryman in the 3rd Army and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Barry County. He married Irene McGlothlin on March 3, 1953, and they made their home near Cassville where they raised three children. He also worked at the shoe factory in Cassville for 14 years.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert "Burl" Horner and his wife Monica, of Cassville, and Joe Horner and his wife, Vanessa, of Columbia; one daughter, Holly and her husband, Bob Bishop, of Montgomery City; three grandchildren; and one brother, Bill and his wife, Adella, of Cassville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, on April 15, 2009.

Thelma Irene Horner, 75, of Cassville, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the Barry County Care Center in Cassville. She was born on Sept. 8, 1933, in Seligman, the daughter of Veril and Mary (Gowen) McGlothlin.

She grew up during her school years in Wichita, Kan. She moved to the Cassville area her senior year of high school and graduated from Cassville High School in 1951. After graduating, she attended one year of college at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. On March 3, 1953, she was united in marriage to Bob Horner. She has been an active member of the community. She worked as church secretary for the First Baptist Church and as secretary for the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce before becoming the first editor of the Barry County Advertiser in 1966. She was editor of the Barry County Advertiser for over 25 years until her retirement. She also held past positions on the Barry County Extension Council and later on the Cassville R-IV School Board. More recently she worked part-time at the Barry County Library and was a member of the volunteer program at the Barry County Museum. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Cassville.
