Ellen Grace Elizabeth Wilson Blankenship, 90, daughter of Bishop Thomas and Ellen JuDythia Gawthrop Wilson, was born Jan. 28, 1912, at Rocky Branch. She died Jan. 6, 2003, at Houston.
She married A.B. "Jim" Blankenship May 9, 1931. They had five children.
The Blankenships made their home in the Solo community until moving to Houston in 1996. Mrs. Blankenship was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She served as pianist for many of those years as well as in other positions in the Sunday School and church.
The last time she was in the church was the week before Christmas, when Ellen Rose brought her home from Springfield. She wanted to see the Christmas decorations and was disappointed she was unable to attend the Christmas program.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband March 1999; one son, Dickie; one brother, Tom Wilson; and two sisters, Roberta Lewis and Ruth Wilson.
Surviving are four children, Dale Blankenship and Ellen Rose Henderson of Springfield, Sandra Craven of Houston and Nancy Heavrin of Mountain View; two sisters, Ruby Vandivort of Houston and Virginia Buchholz of Champlin, Minn.; five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
Services were Jan. 7 at the New Hope Baptist Church at Solo with the Rev. Norman Orr officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston. [Houston Herald Online]
