Carol Kay Brown, 61, daughter of Gilford and Mary Aldridge Brown, was born Oct. 6, 1940, at Elk Creek. She died Nov. 20, 2001, at Lebanon Christian Health Care Center North, where she had been a resident for 23 years.
She was an affectionate person and her favorite singer was Johnny Cash, who she met at a concert at Camdenton and received a kiss on the cheek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Paul, Orville, Delmer, Elmer and Dean Brown; and one sister, Pearl Yarnell.
Surviving are three brothers, Wade Brown and Dwaine Brown of Solo and Gerald Brown of Houston; three sisters, Letha Miller of Independence, Jewel Webster of Kansas City and Fern Miller of Cabool.
Services were Nov. 23 at the New Hope Baptist Church at Solo with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston. [Houston Herald Obituary Archives]
