Jasper County,

Oct. 12, 1849 Wisconsin
Dec. 11, 1886 Nebraska
Wife of T. J. Spencer

Mrs. Amelia C. Spencer, of Falls City, Nebraska, died December 10, 1886 of congestion of the stomach.
Her sister Mrs. Mary Milton has been with her several days during her illness and when it was seen that she could not recover, her mother, Mrs. Amelia Haughawout, of this city, was telegraphed for, but did not arrive until the morning of the 11th, just as the family was ready to start for this city.
The remains, accompanied by the family, arrived yesterday at 2 p.m. from the north, and the funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, at the Methodist Episcopal church conducted by Rev. W. V. Hammil, who delivered a very appropriate and impressive sermon, listened to by a large number of the family. The remains were interred in Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Spence was the youngest daughter of the late Rev. J. D. Haughawout, well and favorably known in this city and county and was born in La Fayette county, Wisconsin, October 17, 1849. At the age of 16 she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was an earnest worker in the Sunday school and church.
She came to this county with her family in 1867, and on May 27, 1877 married Mr. Thomas J. Spencer, who survives her with three little children, one boy and two girls.
Mrs. Spencer, as a girl and woman, was loved by all who knew her. Always kind and sympathetic, willing to sacrifice self for the good and happiness of others, she attracted and won many warm friends and was the favorite of the family who, while mourning her untimely death, feel that her life has been a useful one, and that she has found peace and happiness with angel friends on "the other shore."
