Irene Rainey, of Fulton, Mo., passed away due to natural causes in the late afternoon hours Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, while at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Born Nov. 29, 1930, in Willow Springs to Nelson and Letha Lee; she was 75 years old.Irene was united in marriage to Samuel "Bud" Walter Rainey on Nov. 22, 1948, in Willow Springs in a brush arbor outside of town. The two had four children together. She worked at various jobs throughout her life; however, she was most proud of being a homemaker and raising her children. Throughout her circle of family and friends, she was regarded as everyone's mother and loved to cook and feed people. She will be greatly missed by family and all who knew her. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Rainey, on Feb. 11, 1999. She was further preceded in death by an infant daughter Norma Jean Rainey, and thirteen brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children Beverly Irene Rodriguez and her husband Joe of Hereford, Texas; Samuel Reeves Rainey and his wife Karen of Blanco, Texas; and Edith Ann Gilbert and her husband Warren of Fulton, Mo. She also leaves behind five brothers and sisters, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.A funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Church, located on Highway 137, in Willow Springs, with Pastor Bill Miller officiating. Interment followed the funeral service at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
