Ruby Esther Hunter Barr, 74, daughter of Tina and Earnest Hunter, was born July 19, 1926, at Hartshorn. She died Sept. 27, 2000, at her home at Cabool.
She graduated from Summersville in 1944 and attended Draughn's Business College in Springfield.
She married Elvis Brinkley Jr. March 19, 1945. They were married 23 years and had three daughters.
Mrs. Barr worked at the Kabul Nursing Home for about 20 years, where she was dietary supervisor.
She married Billy Barr Dec. 25, 1982, and traveled with him in his business.
She enjoyed sewing, music and tap-dancing. Nothing pleased her more than stirring up hot chocolate for her grandchildren or putting out a spread of fried chicken for friends and family.
Little notebooks can be found among her possessions marked "Thoughts to Ponder" which were filled with pithy little sayings.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband, Billy Barr; her daughters, Kitty Brinkley McKnight, Betty Brinkley Ice and Sherry Brinkley Hendricks; her mother, Tina Cloninger; a stepson, Bernal Barr; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Sept. 30 at the Cabool Church of Christ with Kenneth Knox officiating. Burial was in the Sargent Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home.
