Tiny twins were born on February 19, 1918, in the small community of Bado, Missouri, in Texas County. The little boy survived for about an hour and the girl baby who was born second weighed less than two pounds and survived for 93 years. There was a very deep snow on that day and the home birth could not be registered until the next day. She was named Velma Veora Gene Caroline Goode by her parents but only the name Veora was officially recorded. Her birth certificate still shows her birthday as Feb. 20. Veora Goode was born to Joe and Bertha Ellis Goode but she always considered Bertha and Clarence Denney as her parents.
Veora, who lived with her paternal grandmother and several different foster parents until about the age of 10, grew up in the Bado and Cabool areas and attended the country schools of Split Limb and 'Possum Trot among others. She was as well educated as any high school graduate but only was able to attend classes through her eighth grade graduation. She lived many miles from the high school and there were no school buses. She never quit learning and made her education a top priority. When she became a mother she made sure that her children were well educated. They all attended Mtn. Grove High School.
Veora became an employee of the newly opened Brown Shoe Co. in Mtn. Grove at the end of WWII and worked there many years until she and her family moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1954. She continued working in the shoe industry until she and her husband Lee moved to Ceres, CA where she worked for Armour Foods until her retirement. Because of Lee's failing health, they moved to Cassville, MO in 1984, to be near her son, Bob. Lee passed away in 1991. Veora married James Kiser at the young age of 16 and became widowed at the age of 17, two weeks before their son, Jimey Lorence Kiser was born. She married Frank Jarrett and three children were born to this union, Frankie Jean (Jeannie), Robert Dean and Patricia Lea. She later married Lee Ethmer Massey who helped her raise her children. They were married 40 years until his death in 1991. She married John McClure and enjoyed 7 happy years with him. All her husbands preceded her in death. Her marriage to John brought her four step-children and more grandchildren.
She was a member of the Cornerstone FWB Church in Mtn. Grove and a former member of Merl's Chapel in Cassville. She enjoyed attending church and visiting with her friends until her failing health prevented her from attending services. She lived independently in Mtn. Grove until March, 2011, when she became very ill and decided it was time to accept Jeannie and Dean's long standing invitation to make her home with them. She was always cheerful and full of laughter. Her family loved her dearly.
Veora was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting. She made many beautiful things for her family and friends.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, George Goode, her twin brother, Cleora, two sons, Jim and Robert, two granddaughters, Cheryl Postlewaite Todd and Vivian Sheffer and a step-grandson, Jared McClure.
Survivors are her daughters, Jeannie (Dean) Postlewaite, Mtn. Grove; Patricia Sheffer, Independence, MO; grandsons, Charles (Mary) Sheffer, Indendence, MO; Jimmy (Melissa) Kiser, Blue Eye, MO; granddaughters Carolyn (Eddie) Welch; Deanice (Danny) Jones, all of Mtn. Grove, Jeannie Marie (Don) Looper, Pontiac, MO; Debbie Jarrett Kasparoff, state of California.
Dr. Tom (Tracey) Todd and her only nephew, Denney Goode, are special people and were held dearly in her heart and by her family. Her step children are Dick (Paula) McClure, Betty (Jim) Christensen, Dorothy (Mac) VanderPool, and Shirley (Virgil) Davis. She also leaves15 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, and another expected later this year. She had numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren.
She was a generous, loving Christian and cherished time with her families. An old saying was never more true, "Our loss is heaven's gain."

Burial was in the Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
