Billie Louise Chapin Stewart, 86, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Cabool, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014, peacefully in her residence.

She was born on October 25, 1927, to John F. Chapin, Jr. and Faye Miller Chapin in West Plains, MO. Billie was the oldest of three girls, she attended grade school and high school in Willow Springs, MO, graduating in 1946.

After graduation she married J.E. Warren “Buck” Stewart, and together they made their home in Cabool, MO. There they raised two children; all while making careers and living the “American Dream”. Billie started her career in the insurance field, and later found her way to work for the City of Cabool. Starting out in a smaller position, she later became the City Clerk of Cabool in 1966 and remained there until her retirement in 1991. Retirement didn’t stop Billie she loved going on vacation with her grandchildren, working in her yard and reading. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Cabool, where she served as Treasurer and Acolyte leader for several years.

In 2001, J. E. passed away, and Billie decided it was time to be closer to her children, so she moved to the Montclair Retirement Community in Springfield. There she gained new friends and enjoyed being a part of so many activities. Billie loved playing cards and was a member of several card groups. She enjoyed dining with friends, shopping, seeing plays and movies, and being a member of the Red Hat Society Ladies.

Billie loved her family, always lending that word of advice or just listening. Even up until her death she was looking out for her family leaving notes of what and how to do things. Billie was a loving, wife mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mary Wunderlich and Elizabeth Chritton; and one son-in-law, Jerry Allen Hicks.

Those left to cherish her memories include her two children, Brian Stewart of Springfield, MO and Ellen Hicks of Aurora, MO; four granddaughters Cate Hicks Milazzo and her husband Guy of Marksville, LA, Carrie Hicks, Jerrica Hicks and Sharon Hicks, all of Aurora, MO; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
