Elmer Biggs of Route 3, Steele was drowned October 14, 1976 in the Mississippi River at Cottonwood Point, Mo. Mr. Biggs, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol spokesman, drove his 1969 Ford pickup to the river and although the ferry was "quite a distance away," he drove off the landing into the river. The incident occurred about 10:45 p.m. and the body was recovered soon after by a Blytheville rescue squad. The water was 30 feet deep at the point of recovery.

Services for Mr. Biggs were conducted Friday, October 15 at the Chapel of German-Aumon Funeral Home. Mr. Jim Franks officiated. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery, German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

A retired farmer, Mr. Biggs was born March 12, 1916 in Pemiscot County.

He leaves his widow, Lillian Thompson Biggs, of the home; a sister, Mrs. Leona Barron of Steele; and two brothers, Will Biggs and Andrew Biggs of Steele.

Pallbearers were William Biggs, William "Bill" Biggs, James Crawford, Jim Smith, Larry Smith, and Olan Pierce.

Mrs. Lillian Mae Biggs, 77, of Holland, died March 10, 1992 at her home. Born Jan. 28, 1915 in Franklin County, Ala., she was the daughter of Bernie and Margaret Lueller Fowler Thompson. She was a member of Holland Church of Christ. She was the widow of Elmer Biggs and was also preceded in death by a foster son, William Odell Fife, 10 brothers and a foster grandchild.
She is survived by two brothers, Reese Thompson of Holland and Loyd Thompson of Doniphan.
Services were March 12 at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw German-Aumon Funeral Home chapel in Steele, Walter Lumpkin and James Hill officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
