Mrs. Geneva Jo Flood, a longtime resident of Willow Springs, passed away on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at her home in Willow Springs, surrounded by family. Born on Oct. 5, 1935, in St. Joe, Ark., to Robert F. and Jemima (Dodson) Colbert, she was 75 years old. Mrs. Flood was the daughter of a country preacher and lived in numerous towns in southern Missouri as a child. She graduated from Willow Springs High School with the class of 1954. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Willow Springs. In 1952, she married Clarence Baker until his untimely passing in 1958. In 1959, she married Bill Flood and on Aug. 15, 2010, the couple celebrated 51 years of marriage. Geneva worked for Waggoner's and Bill's Dollar Store for many years. She enjoyed embroidery, reading, baking and camping; however, her greatest joy came from being a dedicated wife, mother, and "Grandma." Geneva will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Clarence Baker; her brothers Dwight, Bill and Robert Colbert; and her sisters Claudette Smith, Alice Perlock, Carol Stroud and Patricia Collins. Mrs. Flood is survived by her husband, Bill Flood of Willow Springs; children, Bill Simmons and his wife Eva of Kingston, Mo., Sonja Wages and her husband Shane of West Plains, Mo., Judith Henderson and her husband David of Willow Springs, Mo., Laura Martin and her husband Robert of Osage Beach, Mo., and Shelli Coale of Willow Springs, Mo. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a sister Bobbie Jean Havens of West Plains, Mo. Graveside service were on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the Willow Springs City Cemetery located on DD Highway in Willow Springs, with Pastor Joel Hinds of the First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home. [howellcountynews.com]
