Mr. Lester H. Adams passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at his home in Willow Springs. Born on Aug. 24, 1921, in Pipestone, Minn., to Leo G. and Marie (Hook) Adams, he was 89 years old.
Mr. Adams came to Missouri at a young age. His family settled in the Willow Springs area around 1931 where he attended the local schools. In September of 1941 he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country until December of 1946. He received the American Area Campaign Medal, European African Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. On Nov. 17, 1947, Lester married Dorothy Simon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Willow Springs. To this union two children were born. It was said by his family that Lester would bring Dorothy flowers everyday, and on the 17th day of every month, Lester would wish Dorothy a "Happy Anniversary." He enjoyed gardening and working outside at his home. However, Lester's greatest enjoyment was fishing. He was described by his family as an ardent fisherman who was fondly known by many as "The Fisherman." He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers; Willard and Elmer Adams, and a sister Geneva Erbe.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Willow Springs; his children, Duane L. Adams of Alton, IL; and Victoria A. "Vicki" Adams of Willow Springs. He is further survived by his granddaughters Ann Adams of Kirksville, MO; Ellen Adams of Bunker Hill, IL; and his brother Harold Adams and his wife Eunice of Willow Springs. Numerous nieces and nephews further survive.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial followed Saturday's service at the willow Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home in Willow Springs. (Howell County News, Oct. 27, 2010)
