Mrs. Virginia Gilmore of Cabool, Missouri, formerly of Willow Springs, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool. Born on October 31, 1915 in Bradshaw, Nebraska, to William F. and Wilhemine (Peetzke) Stettner, she was 93 years old.
Virginia was raised in Nebraska where she attended school until her family moved to Sweetwater, Missouri, in 1931. It was there that she met Rex A. Gilmore and the couple were married in October of 1934.
After living in Sweetwater for a number of years, Virginia and Rex moved to Dunn, Missouri, and purchased a farm where they lived until moving to Willow Springs in 1956. Virginia worked at the Ben Franklin Store on Main Street in Willow Springs for many years where she was known for giving out candy to the neighborhood children.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Willow Springs until moving to Cabool in 1985, and then to Lees Summit be near her daughter, Sandy. She returned to Cabool in 2008 and resided at Kabul Nursing Home due to her frail health.
Virginia had many enjoyments in life which included cooking, quilting, and painting, a craft that she did not start until she was 75 years old. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Gilmore, Sr. on November 17, 1959; her daughter, Sandra J. Gilmore on February 7, 2005; her sister, Edna Rehrs; and three brothers, Edgar, Franklin, and Dean Stettner.
Virginia is survived by her son, Rex Andrew Gilmore, Jr. and wife Norma of Willow Springs; grandchildren Andrew Gilmore of Willow Springs, Kerrie Green and husband Steven of Seattle, Washington, Steven Holloway and wife Lisa of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Mary Cederholm and husband Erik of Lincoln, California; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Willow Springs. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
