Joseph Andrew Baumeister, 71, of 803 St. Louis Road, Fulton, Missouri, died December 8, 1955 at his home. Dr. E.R. Gish pronounced death caused by Coronary Occlusion, Coronary Arteriosclerosis and mild hypertension. Informant was his wife.

Joseph was born April 20, 1884, in Brussels, Calhoun County, Illinois, the son of Henry and Cunegonda Georgia Kramer.
When Joe was four years old he moved with his parents from Illinois to Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He attended the public schools there. He also learned the bakery business there.

Joe and his first wife, Laura, had three sons, Joseph Andrew Baumeister Jr., Robert Roe Baumeister and Kenneth Baumeister. Laura died at age 28 on August 21, 1916, in Dexter, Missouri.

Joe and Clara Gertrude Zimmer were married in 1922, in St. Louis, Missouri. They were in the bakery business in St. Louis for several years, then moved to Dexter. They had a bakery business for a few years. Joe and Clara moved from Dexter to Fulton in 1933.

The first Baumeister Bakery was located on Market Street. A few years later they bought Marline's Bakery on the corner of 5th and Nichols Street, where the bakery continued until 1967.

To the union of Joseph and Clara two children were born. They are Rodger (Marianna Murphy) Baumeister who lives in Fulton and Joy Ann (George) Wachtel of Pleasant Grove, New York. They survive along with Joseph Andrew Baumeister Jr. of St. Louis. Also surviving are six grandchildren.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and two sons, Robert Roe Baumeister and Kenneth Baumeister, two brothers, Henry C. Baumeister and Peter August Baumeister.

Clara G. Baumeister, 95, of Fulton, Missouri, died on Wednesday, February 26, 1997, at Callaway Community Hospital in Fulton.

She was born on May 4, 1901, in Ashley, Jefferson County, Illinois, the first child of John and Sophie (Dietrich) Zimmer. She married Joseph A. Baumeister in 1922, in St. Louis, He preceded her in death on December 10, 1955.

Mrs. Baumeister and her husband operated bakeries in St. Louis and Dextor, Missouri. They moved to Fulton from Dextor in 1933. They opened Baumeister Bakery on Market Street, across the street from the present day police department, they later relocated the bakery to the corner of 5th and Nichols where for the next 25 years they supplied Fulton with bakery products. After her husband passed away, she and her son Roger, continued to operate the bakery until 1968 when the bakery was closed and she retired.

Mrs. Baumeister was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and a longtime supporter of St. Peters Catholic School. She was a founder of the Clothes Cupboard, helped organize the volunteer Arts and Crafts at Fulton State Hospital, was a member of Mrs. Murphy's Quilting Club and was an enthusiastic supporter and participant of Ecumenical Ministries.

Survivors include a son, Roger J. (Marianne Murphy) Baumeister of Fulton, a daughter, Joy Ann (George) Wachtell of Pleasantville, New York, a step-son, Joseph A. Baumeister Jr. of St. Louis, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mildred Grossman of Suprise, Arizona and Adeline Lindeman of Los Angeles, California, three step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, several step-great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Baumeister was preceded in death by two step-sons, Robert Baumeister and Kenneth Baumeister.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00AM Saturday at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father I.C. Medina officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton.

Visitation from 6-8 today at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with a rosary at 7:30PM.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Peter's Catholic School or to the American Heart Association.
