OBITUARY

Funeral Services Held at Methodist Church

John Thomas Hooker, son of J.B. and Margaret Hooker, was born December 20, 1861, in Sullivan County, near what was known as the North Hooker School.

He grew to manhood in this vicinity and in 1886 was united in marriage to Hattie M. Gable, and to this union were born three children, Orvil (sic) E., Marjorie M., amd Glen V.(sic) Hooker.

Most of his life was spent on a farm 3 1/2 miles west of Browning, although for a short while he lived in Humphreys and later in West Plains.

During his younger days he was a builder of homes, having built many of the homes in this community but later confined his activities to farming. He later retired and moved to Browning. In 1947, he moved to Ferguson, Missouri, to make his home with his son, Glen, until his passing on June 6, 1951, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 16 days.

In his earlier years he was converted and joined the Locust Valley Baptist Church where he was an active and faithful member and seldom ever missed a service. After moving to Browning he transferred to the Methodist Church where always attended when he was able.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie, daughter, Marjorie, and son, Orvil(sic); his second wife, Etta Tucker, to whom he was married in 1924, and his third wife, Mary Lambert, passed away on June 13, 1947.

He is survived by one son, Glen; five grandchildren, J.W. Phillips, Kansas City; Mrs. Carmen Hatfield, Ft. Madison, Ia.; Roger and Bobbie Hooker, Ferguson; Orville(sic), Jr., Caruthersville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Browning, June 8, 1951, conducted by Rev. W. A. Pollock, pastor of the Methodist Church in Purdin, at 1 p.m. Misses Eva Doris Carter and Marilie Schrock, with Judy Moore as accompanist, furnished the song service.

Pall bearer were members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, of which he was a member. The lodge conducted services at the cemetery. Burial was made under direction of the Wade Funeral Service.
