Rebah Maxine Ream Rowlett was born Benjamin and Almer Ream on Sept. 19, 1921, in Howell County, Mo. She was 87 years old when she died on Feb. 22, 2009, at Brooke Haven Healthcare. She moved to California with her parents as a child, returning to a farm near Mountain View, Mo. She finished eighth grade and later got her GED and attended college, first at MoArk Baptist College in West Plains and obtained a degree and teaching certificate from Walnut Ridge, Ark. She taught in several one-room school houses. She was an excellent teacher, always involving her students in the learning process. She ended her teaching career at Birch Tree, Mo., as librarian at the Elementary School. She was married on Feb. 12, 1938, to Charles Lester Rowlett. They had one son, Max, and one daughter, Joan. Maxine accepted Christ as her savior as a young girl and was very active in church and practiced her faith, her membership being at Bethel Baptist the past few years. Many struggling people found her home to be a safe, loving place to stay. She was a pianist at church, self taught, and played shaped-note music. She was a member of a gospel quartet, singing in various communities. Maxine was director of Vacation Bible School, WMU, and a Sunday school teacher. She also was pianist and cook for Camp Joy for young people. She was "Granny Rowlett" to all her friends, young and old. She was always busy sewing, making her family's clothes, quilting, crocheting and working with her plants. She was bookkeeper for Trask Lumber Co., the family business. Maxine was a caring, affirming mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a kind word and smile for all. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Roush and husband, Davis; grandchildren, Rick Roush and wife, Donna, Kelli Killen and husband, Matt, Dr. Scott Roush and wife, Melissa, and Sheri, Chuck, and Ben, and their families from the East Coast; great-grandchildren, Sage, Seth, Sean, Erin, Michael, Heather and husband, Marc. A sister-in-law, Betty Ream; a special niece, Debbie Ream; and a special nephew, Dan Ream and his family also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; son, Max; brother, Troy; and great-granddaughter, Shelby Dawn Roush. She leaves lasting and fond memories to those left behind. She made a difference. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Ozarks Christian Academy and left at the funeral home. Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, with Rev. Lawrence Nevills officiating. Burial was at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery Howell County, Mo.
