Son of Virgil Coatney
Mr. Boyd L. Coatney of Willow Springs passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield. Born on Sept. 5, 1929 in Wright County, Mo., to Virgil and Nina Coatney, he was 78 years old. Mr. Coatney married Alta Pauline McCandless on Feb. 12, 1949, in West Plains. To this union, three children were born. Boyd worked for many years as a truck driver for Cabool Transport. Mr. Coatney loved children, so after his retirement he enjoyed driving a school bus for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Mr. Coatney was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Nina Coatney; his wife, Alta "Pauline" Coatney; and a daughter-in-law, Tommie Coatney. He is survived by his sons, Don Coatney and his wife, Joan, of Nashville, Tenn.; Mike Coatney of Willow Springs; and Stephen Coatney and his wife, Wanda, of Willow Springs. He is further survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, Norma Wagner of Willow Springs and Velma Collins and her husband, Eddie, of Laguna Niguel, Calif. Boyd will also be missed by the many friends that he made at Willow West Apartments. Funeral services were on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Willow Springs, located at 5th and Harris Streets. Burial was at Howell Memorial Park in Pomona. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
