Floreaca V. (Wooden) Garrett, 93, Springfield, died at 1:20 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2007, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield. She was born on March 28, 1914, in Bogard, Missouri, the eighth of nine children born to Florilla and Reace Wooden. She was united in marriage on February 18, 1935, to Raymond A. Garrett, who preceded her in death in 1995, following their 60th wedding anniversary. For most of her life, Floreaca lived in West Plains, where her husband owned and operated grocery markets. After a brief tenure teaching school, she devoted her life to raising her family, aiding her husband in his grocery business, and participating in her church. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in West Plains for many years, before transferring her membership to the First Baptist Church of Springfield. In her leisure time, she was an accomplished quilter and an avid reader. She is survived by her three children and spouses: Helen Joyce and Perry Prewett of Bryant, Ark., William R. and Linda Garrett of Colchester, Vt., and Earl R. Garrett of Springfield, Mo. Her life was also enriched by six grandsons and one granddaughter, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Orpha Joyce McHenry, one sister-in-law, Ruth Scrivner, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families on both the Wooden and Garrett branches of the extended family. A memorial service in celebration of the life of Floreaca Garrett will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007, in J. D. Lee & Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville. An interment ceremony will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007, in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery near West Plains. Friends are invited to join with the family in sharing their memories of Floreaca from 10 to 11 a.m. before the memorial service and/or after the interment ceremonies. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and / or the Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions of the Southern Baptist Convention, 525 South Avenue, Springfield, MO 65806.
