Graveside services for Marvin L. Thornton, 89, Willow Springs, Mo., were Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Thornton died at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at West Vue Nursing Center, West Plains. He was born May 8, 1920, at Roosevelt, Mo., to John Thomas and Ada Francis Pittman Thornton. On Feb. 13, 1943, he was married at West Plains, Mo. to Annie "Maxine" Johnson. Mr. Thornton had been a farmer and before his retirement, was employed as a tractor mechanic at the Ford Tractor Implement Company. For more than 50 years, he was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Willow Springs, Mo. Mr. Thornton loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Thornton, of the family home; three children, Dwayne Thornton, wife, Edith, of Pomona, Mo., Linda Wake, husband, Doyle, of Willow Springs, Mo., and Brenda Collins, husband, Walter, of Pomona, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Bruce Collins, wife, Christie, of Ardmore, Okla., Brian Hoyle, wife, Jeannie, of Melbourne, Ark., Brad Thornton, wife, Jackie, of West Plains, Mo., Tilithia Thompson of Pawhuska, Okla., Tina Lawing, husband, Clifford, of West Plains, Trish Bryan, husband, Justin, of Pomona, Mo., Laura Friga, husband, Tony, of Pomona, Mo., Matthew Wake, wife, Marriya, of West Plains, and Marvin Wake of Willow Springs, Mo.; two step-grandchildren, Randy Wake, wife, Mary, and Brian Wake, wife, Patty, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; 20 great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Nola White of West Plains, Christine Altermatt of Mountain View, Mo., Opal Clinton of West Plains and Lawanda Towell, husband, Harry, of Manes, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. His parents; one son, Lenvil Dwight Thornton; one granddaughter, Lisa O'Laughlin; two sisters, Orpha Clinton and Treva Thornton; and four brothers, Lloyd, Gene, Orville and Roy Thornton, precede him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Annie Maxine Thornton, 84, Willow Springs, MO; were Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thornton died at 6:05 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at her home. She was born Nov. 21, 1925, at Roosevelt, MO, to Ira Henderson and Mattie Roper Johnson. On Feb. 13, 1943, she was married at West Plains, MO, to Marvin Lenvil Thornton, who preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2009. Before her retirement, Mrs. Thornton had worked for Rawlings Manufacturing. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by three children, Dwayne Thornton, wife, Edith, of Pomona, MO, Linda Wake, husband, Doyle, of Willow Springs, MO, and Brenda Collins, husband, Walter, of Pomona, MO; nine grandchildren, Bruce Collins of Ardmore, OK, Brian Hoyle, wife, Jennie, of West Plains, Brad Thornton, wife, Jackie, of West Plains, Tilithia Thompson of Pawhuska, OK, Tina Lawing, husband, Clifford, of West Plains, Trish Bryan, husband, Justin, of Pomona, MO, Laura Friga, husband, Tony, of Pomona, MO, Matthew Wake, wife, Marriya, of West Plains and Marvin Wake, wife, Carolyn, of Willow Springs, MO; two step-grandchildren, Randy Wake, wife Mary and Brian Wake, wife, Patty, all of Phoenix, AZ; 20 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; one brother, Robert Waylon Johnson, wife, Carol, of Hermann, MO; one sister, Fern Collins of Osage Beach, MO; several nieces and nephews; and her special companion, Maggie.
Her parents; husband; one son, Lenvil Dwight Thornton; granddaughter, Lisa O'Laughlin and two brothers, Wayne Johnson and Dennis Benfield, precede her in death.
Mrs. Thornton left a legacy of herself through the many quilts she made and handed down to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Compassus Hospice and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. [Howell County News, Aug. 18, 2010]
