Lillian "Billie" Edith Collins died Friday, April 5, 2013, at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Erie, Pa., on Sept. 13, 1928, to Joseph and Kathryn Fullerton Johnson, Billie's parents moved around the country living in Fort Myers, Florida, Mammoth Springs, Arkansas and Willow Springs, Missouri. She attended school in Mammoth Springs and in Willow Springs. Billie married Herman Collins on Oct. 3, 1945, in West Plains, Mo. Billie and Herman resided in Willow Springs, Mo., where they had their only daughter, Deanna in July 1946. When Deanna was entering her fifth grade of school, Billie started working at Rawlings Sporting Goods Co. and she was active in the Rebekah Lodge in Willow Springs. Following Billie and Herman's divorce in l975, Billie moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. She was briefly married to Ross Collins. Billie worked in home health care for 25 years in the Shenandoah region. She was a passionate, caring, home care provider. She treasured her numerous patients and friends. Reading, needlework, gardening, travel tours and her special little poodle, Princess were among her favorite activities. Billie was usually busy caring for someone who was too ill to care for themselves. Billie was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Arline, Jo Ann, Dorothy and Cheryl Ann in California. In addition to her daughter, Deanna Corn, Columbia, Mo., survivors include her grandson, Russell Allan Corn and his wife, Poonnasa Corn, St. Louis, Mo., her brothers, Charles and Joe Jr., state of California and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by former sister-in-law Bettie and Dwain Dobbs and their daughter, Jennifer, Shenandoah and special care-taker friends, Sue and Ron Johnson, Shenandoah. Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Joel Hinds officiating. Memorials may be directed to a local animal shelter, humane society or to a charity of choice. [howellcountynews.com, Apr 18, 2013]
