W.D. (Bert) Pennington 79, a longtime resident of Rt. 3 Cabool died Thursday noon in the Kabul Nursing Home following a lingering illness.
He was born November 12, 1892, in Hennessey, Okla., the son of the late Anderson D. and Cora Hahn Pennington. He has also been preceded in passing by one brother and three sisters.
The family moved to Cabool in 1911 and on December 25, 1918 he was united in marriage to Ruth Gitt. Two children were born to this union, one having died at infancy. Mrs. Pennington died in 1969.
Bert, was a well known and successful farmer of the Cabool area and had served for many years on the Farmers Exchange Board. He had made many friends and was always willing to help others in any way. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Many years ago, he professed his faith in Christ and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Galen of Cabool, two brothers, Anderson of San Jose, Calif., Ben of Wichita, Kan., three sisters, Naoma Schmitt and Mary Krueger both of Wichita, Kan., and Lucy Davis of El Dorado, Kan., also two grandchildren, Shirley and Billy and several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Elliott-Gentry Chapel, with Rev R.L. Gass officiating. Burial was in the Cabool Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Irene Pennington, well known resident of the Cabool area, passed away December 23, 1969 in the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston after a long illness.
Born on August 25, 1897 at Birch Tree, Mo., she was the daughter of Charles W. and Hattie M. (Van Orsdel) Gitt. At the time of her passing she was 72 years, three months and twenty eight days old.
On December 25, 1918, she was united in marriage to W.D. (Bert) Pennington and to this union two sons were born. One died in infancy. For many years she taught school, and since 1930, she and her husband have lived on a farm south of Cabool. During the past several years she has been in failing health.
She has been preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Surviving are her husband Bert, one son Galen, two grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Anna Bonnett, Parsons, Kansas, Gussie Hale and Bessie Altis, both of Mtn. Grove, and Alma Bishop of Cabool. Also a host of other relatives, many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Elliott Gentry Chapel with Rev. R.L. Gass officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery.
