Alvin C. York Noirfalise, 92, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away suddenly Sunday, January 22, 2012, in his home.
York was the youngest son of Clara (Hall) and Frank Noirfalise, born on June 14, 1919 in the Blackjack community of Texas County, Missouri. York was named after a World War I war hero, Alvin C. York.
York was united in marriage to Phyllis R. Kilpatric on March 26, 1939. They had three sons, Ted, Ronnie and Terry. He farmed on the family farm until he started his own milk route in approximately 1942. In 1946, York and Phyllis sold their farm and built their home at 813 Garst in Cabool, which is where they lived until their passing.
In 1946 they moved to Cabool and started a painting, papering and floorsanding business, which led to the beginning of Noirfalise Paint and Carpet. They worked at their business until York became superintendent at Wedgewood Country Club around 1981. He continued to work there for many years, even long after his "retirement."
York was a pillar of the community; he served on the city council for many years, as well as mayor of Cabool in 1963.
He loved being around the golf course, playing and working. He kept his enthusiasm for golf and continued to play up until he was 91. He won many golfing awards, one of which was the oldest golfer in the Southwest Office of Aging tournament for over ten years. Later in life he would play pool in the mornings at Cabool Senior Center year round and golf in the afternoons.
York was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis; his parents, Frank J. and Clara (Hall); his sisters, Gold (McCalla), Fern (Gallup) and Helen (Elliott); and his brothers Forrest, Harold and Wallace.
He is survived by three sons and their family members. York loved all of his family and friends; he lived life to the fullest extent and will be greatly missed by all.
Services will be Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral chapel with Bro. Bob Martin officiating. Pallbearers will be David Noirfalise, Jon Noirfalise, Jack Noirfalise, Ryan Noirfalise, Jordan Noirfalise, Cole Tribolet and Markus Rader. Interment will be in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Cabool Cemetery or Cabool Senior Center.

Phyllis Rosalie Noirfalise, 83, the first of 10 children of Ralph and Myrtle Kilpatric, was born July 1, 1921, at Willow Springs. She died March 22, 2005, at the Ozarks Medical Center at West Plains.
She attended at Willow Springs her first three years, Clear Springs and Liberty, Summersville High School and Willow Springs.
She married York Noirfalise March 26, 1939, at Simmons. After farming in the Shady Grove area for seven years, they moved to Cabool in 1946.
Mrs. Noirfalise was active in the Cabool community. She worked at Brown Shoe Co., operated Tod's Motel Restaurant and was co-owner and operated Noirfalise Paint and Carpet for 28 years until her retirement in 1988.
After retirement, she loved to travel and visit her siblings scattered throughout the United States. Her interest in history led her to the Cabool and Texas County Historical and Genealogical societies. Mrs. Noirfalise compiled family and community history in pictures and written word. Her most recent contribution included an index of obituaries published by the Cabool Enterprise from 1912 to 2004 and can be found at the Bauch House and Cabool branch of the Texas County Library.
She loved to play games, especially dominoes, and spent time at the Cabool and Willow Springs senior centers.
She was an active member of the Cabool Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ronald.
Surviving are her husband, York, of the home; three sons, Ted and Terry of Cabool and Ron of Jefferson City; five sisters, Patricia Skaggs of Edwardsville, Kan., Wanda Slack of Longmont, Colo., Shirley Stephens of Springfield, Roberta Heimbach of Sunrise Beach and Laura Vaughan of Overland Park, Kan.; three brothers, Ralph "Bud" and Jack of Redding, Calif., and Billy of Rose Hill, Kan.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
