Dorothy Alliene Embury was born June 10, 1918 in Elkhart, Indiana, to Lewis and Bertha Rhoades. She passed on to heaven on January 9, 2015 at the age of 96 years and eight months.
She was the second-born in a family of nine children.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Elmer Embury; a son-in-law, Jack Frost; and five of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her eight children, David and Roxy Embury of Cabool, Missouri, Karen and Larry Schwartz of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, Norce Embury of North Carolina, Larry and Peggy Embury of Michigan, Charlene Frost of Washington, Danny and Rita Embury of Cabool, Emmy and Victor Prewitt of Fordland, Missouri, and Jill and George Johnson of West Plains, Missouri; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy grew up in Indiana and Michigan, graduating high school in 1937 in Grand Blanc, Michigan. She was a farmer’s wife and became a licensed practical nurse in 1969.
A woman of many talents and interests, she taught ceramics at Cabool Senior Center, was in a weekly bowling league until age 90, had worked in her church’s office doing bulletins, was in the church handbell choir, and for several years was the president of United Methodist Women of Cabool First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking. [egcfuneralhome.com]
