Mr. Grover Lee Welch, the son of the late Luther Grover and Mary Kathryn Hall Welch, was born May 3, 1915 in Steele and died May 23, 1990 at the Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis, at the age of 75. He was a retired box factory employee and a member of the Samford Church of Christ. He was married to Alice Johnson, September 28, 1940, in Caruthersville.
He leaves his wife, Alice Welch, of Steele; one son, Wayne Welch, of Steele; two daughters: Mary Johns and Earlene Grogan, both of Steele; one brother, Earl Welch of Steele; two sisters: Dola Burton of Steele and Evelyn Melton of Camden, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bradshaw German-Aumon Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Walter Lumpkin officiated and burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rick Cooper, Stuart Worrell, Bobby Ketchum, Ricky Turner, David Daniels and Jerry Powell.
Alice Welch, 84, of Steele, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at the River Oaks Care Center in Steele.
Born Aug. 26, 1921, in Alton, she was the daughter of the late Herman Johnson and Melvina Hutson Johnson. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Johnson and Gerald Johnson.
Alice was united in marriage to Grover Lee Welch on Sept. 28, 1940, in Caruthersville. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1990.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Samford Church of Christ.
Mrs. Welch leaves one son, Wayne Welch and his wife Cathy, of Holland; Two daughters: Mary Johns and her husband Gary and Earlene Grogan, both of Steele; One sister, Lennie Jennings, of Norman, Ill.; Seven granddaughters: Debbie McLaughlin of Henderson, Tenn., Tracy Blair of Franklin, Tenn., Lisa Haynes, Sherry Buchanan, Jeanne Dent and Amy Edwards of Steele and Kimberly Welch of Holland; and Eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Welch were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with Mr. Tim Howard officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Powell Funeral home of Steele in charge of services.
Pallbearers were Bobby Ketchum, Allen Southern, Howard Henry, Carl Avis, Nathan Summitt and Stuart Worrell.
