Clyde Akin, age 64, of Strafford, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009, in his home. He was born July 1, 1945, in Strafford, Mo., to William Columbus and Mary Jane (Workman) Akin. Clyde was an Army Vietnam War Veteran, serving in the Big Red 1, where he received many awards. Clyde was a retired rural route 3 postal carrier in Strafford. He was an avid auction attendee. His wife, Linda Akin, December 22, 2008; parents, William Columbus and Mary Jane Akin; brother, Ronnie Akin, September 8, 2009; and mother-in-law, Ina Jones, August 1, 2008, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, James Akin of Strafford, Mo.; two grandchildren, Samantha and Alex Akin of Fair Grove; three brothers, James Akin and Bessie of Springfield, Daniel Akin of Springfield, Richard Akin of Fair Grove; one sister, Donna (Akin) Wolff and Dan Wolff of Springfield; niece, Laura and David Phillips of Springfield; nephew, Tyler and Stephanie Phillips of Springfield; nephew, Chad and Grace Akin of Springfield; nephew, Rick and Janie Akin of Fair Grove; nephew Mike Akin of Fair Grove; nephew, Dustin and Darby Akin of Fair Grove; nephew, David and Amanda Payne of Springfield; niece, Melissa and Patrick Williams of Niangua; nephew, Phillip and Shala Akin of Republic; niece, Linda Eddington of Springfield; nephews, Jimmy, David, Michael and Stephen Akin all of Springfield; cousin, Bonnie and Larry Arnall of Springfield; and a longtime family friend, Tate Nash of Strafford. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Howell Memorial Gardens, West Plain, Mo., with full military honors.
Funeral services for Linda Lavada Akin, 63, Strafford, Mo., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mrs. Akin died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at her home. She was born Aug. 30, 1945, at Elijah, Mo., to Leonard Leroy and Ina Lavada Roberts Jones.
On March 7, 1975, she was married at Strafford, Mo., to Clyde Akin. Mrs. Akin was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Akin, of the family home; two children, Kari Sturdevant, Springfield, Mo., and James Akin, of the family home; one grandchild, Samantha Akin, Fair Grove, Mo.; sister-in-law, Donna Wolff, Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and one brother, Leroy Jones, precede her in death.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. [robertsondrago.com]
