Clarence W. Shrader (1884 - 1941)

Mrs. Carrie Mae Shrader, widow of Clarence W. Shrader, passed away on January 22, 1966, after a long term illness. She had been a Steele resident for a number of years after moving to the community with her husband and his parents to open a large mercantile. In later years, she lived with her daughter, Virgie German, also a long-time Steele resident. She was an excellent cook and family and friends enjoyed many of her delicious meals. She also enjoyed working in her yard and was very particular about her flowers. She lived in a large Victorian style house in Steele that was located behind the German Funeral Home. Her neighbors recall that when ill health forced her to move in with her daughter, Virgie, and her husband, J.L. German, who owned the funeral home, every afternoon she insisted they walk over to check on her plants and flowers. She took pride in her beautiful gardens. She was born in Catchings, just outside of Delta City, Mississippi to Ben and Agnes Ellington Everett. She leaves her children, Eugene Shrader and Virgie Shrader German Adams of Steele and Mrs. Velma Shrader Faught of Blytheville, Arkansas.
