George Clyde Fortner, Steele businessman, farmer and substitute city postal service employee, died June 27, 1975.
On the day of his death, Mr. Fortner had been delivering mail, became ill and returned to a Main Street business, City Applicance. Shortly after he sat down to rest, he collapsed of an apparent heart attack. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Pemiscot Memorial Medical Center at Hayti.
Mr. Fortner was born May 15, 1927, to the late Effie and George Fortner at Lawrenceburg, Tn.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of the German-Aumon funeral Home with the Rev. G.A. Waterman officiating. The Rev. James McCrary assisted at the 3:00 p.m. services Sunday, June 29.
Mr. Fortner leaves his widow, Anna Jackson Fortner; two brothers: Jack Fortner of Steele and Herbert Fortner of Kennett; and two sisters: Kathleen Griggs, Steele and Willidean Roger of New Orleans.
Interment was in Sam F. Hamra Memorial Gardens at Mt. Zion Cemetery with the German-Aumon Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
