George Everhart (age 19) married Elizabeth (Betsy) Mizer (age 23) on August 30, 1839 in Tuscawaras County, Ohio. The wedding certificate (page 353, No. 2817) was signed by Philip Mizer, J.P. (Justice of the Peace). George (29) and Elizabeth (34) are shown in the 1850 DeKalb County, Indiana Census (Union Township, Page 250B). At that time, their children are: Benjamin (8), Simon/Simeon (6), Amanda (5), and Solomon (2). George's occupation is listed as "Farmer."

George’s first wife, Elizabeth, died about 1856 (possibly in childbirth). George then married Barbara Fretz and the family moved to Missouri. They are recorded in the 1860 Missouri Census for Adair County, with children: Benjamin (19), Simeon (17), Amanda (14), Solomon (12), Samuel (10), Lemuel (8) and Samantha, aged 2 months.

Two of George and Elizabeth’'s sons, Benjamin and Simeon, died while serving with the Union Army in Missouri.

After the Civil War, George and Barbara were recorded in the 1870 Census for Adair County, Missouri, with Martha (14, born 1856), Samantha Jennie (11, born 1859) and William (9).
