Luceille FERMAN COBY

Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery
Adair County,
Missouri

Jan 8, 1896 - Oct 14, 1921

Note that Lucille's name is spelled Luceille on her stone. But, on her marriage record and in census records, it is spelled the traditional way of Lucille. Her death certificate could not be found.

On August 26, 1917 in Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri, Lucille Ferman married Harry W. Coby (born November 5, 1893 in LaBelle, Missouri). Prior to his marriage, on Harry's WW I Draft Registration Card (1917-1918), he was single at that time and his address was 814 N. Davis St. in Kirksville. At that time, he was employed as a taylor for Robison Mercantile Co. in Kirksville.

In the 1920 census, Harry Coby was 28 and Lucille age 23. Harry was listed as Black and Lucille listed as Mulatto. Harry was a "fireman at the light plant." They lived on W. Harrison Street in Kirksville, Mo. No children in the home.

Lucille died the next year after this census and was buried at Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville.

Harry then married Alvia/Altha M. King on February 25, 1922 in Adair County, Missouri. According to her Missouri Death Certificate, she died in 1923 in Kirksville of pneumonia at the age of 24 and was buried in Monticello, Missouri.

Harry next married Willia/Willie Mae (Ward) Myers in 1923 in Kirksville, Missouri. Her Missouri Death Certificate shows she died in 1929 of peritonitis at the age or 34 and was buried at Forest Cemetery which is the same as Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery. Her memorial is 117204644.

Harry's 4th wife was Annie L. Wilson whom he married on June 10, 1929 in Kirksville, Missouri.

In the 1930 census of Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri, Harry was 38 and his new wife Anna L. was 29 (born in Alabama). Both listed as Negro. No children in the home. Harry's occupation was "machinest at the power company." They lived on Main Street in Kirksville.

In 1940, Harry 47 and Annie L. 39 were living on N. Edgar Street in Kirksville and Harry was still employed as a "machinest at the light plant." No children in the home.

The Social Security Death Index lists a Harry Coby, born November 5, 1892, as dying in November 1978 in Quincy, Illinois, which may or may not be the correct Harry Coby.
