Col. L. W. Chase Dies After a Long Illness.
L. W. Chase, a widely known insurance man, died at his home, 1017 East Missouri street last Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock after an illness of several weeks, age 68 years.
"Clonel" Chase, as he was known by nearly every one, was born at Norwalk, O., Sept 22, 1847. When a young man he moved to Missouri, residing in Kirksville for the past 40 years. He spent the last six years in St. Louis but he always claimed Kirksville as his home. He was a member of an Illinois regiment durning the Civil War.
Mr. Chase was married to Miss Mary Fusselman, Feb. 20, 1878, and she survives him. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Jones of St. Louis: one brother, Carlyle Chase, of Warrensburg, Mo. and three sisters.
He was of member of the K P Lodge, Uniform Rank, and of Coporal Dix Post, G. A. R. The funeral took place at the residence Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. A. F. Zeigel. Interment at Forest Park Cemetery.
Col. Chase was widely known as an insurance man and as a republican politician. He had a wide acquaintance, not only in Missouri, but in other states.
