S.E. HUSTED, FORMER GROCER HERE, DIES
-SUCCUMBED AT 71 AFTER THREE YEARS ILLNESS
S.E. Husted, 71, former grocer here, died at his home at 605 E. Washington, yesterday afternoon following an illness of three years.
Mr. Husted came to Kirksville in 1913 and operated a grocery store unitl ill health forced him to retire a few years ago. He previously had been in business in La Belle, Missouri, for 21 years.
Born near Dodge City, Kansas, on May 27, 1864, Mr. Husted was the son of Merrit and Julia Husted. His full name was Stephen Edward Husted. The family came to Missouri when he was a small boy and settled near Martinstown. He was united in marriage to Amelia Catherine Fechtling on Sept. 5, 1886. To this union were born five children, Mrs. J.W. Daley of Tokoma Park, Maryland, Mrs. M.C. Settle of New York City, J.M. Husted of McCook, Nebraska, and Mrs. O.L. Seward of La Plata. A son, Arlie Ray Husted, died when a small boy.
Mrs. Husted died in Aug. 1929 and Mr. Husted was then married to Mrs. Ida Plemmons of La Plata, in 1932.
He united with the church while a young man and was a faithful worker.
Arrangements had not been completed this afternoon, pending word from the daughter in New York City. Funeral services will be held at the Davis & Wilson Funeral Home, where the body is lying in state. Burial will be in Llewellyn Cemetery.
