Russell W. East, 92 of Hannibal, MO, died at 2:56 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013, in Hannibal Regional Hospital. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Fairview Cemetery in Frankford, MO. Friends are welcome. Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Full military honors will be provided at the grave by Emmette J. Shields Post # 55, American Legion. Smith Funeral Home & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Russell was born at Frankford, Mo., on September 20, 1920, a son of Artie Guy East and Esther Lorene Waddell East. He was married to Betty Louise Bliven in Quincy, Il., on June 7, 1946. She died on May 31, 2002. Survivors include two sons, William Guy East of Hannibal and John Robert East and his wife Robin of New York, New York; three grandchildren, Meredith East of San Diego, Aaron East and wife Victoria , also of San Diego, Calif., and Heather Riggins and husband Tim of Chicago, Il.; as well as three great grandchildren. An infant daughter as well as his sister, Hilda Ruth Couch of Virginia preceded Russell in death.

Russell was a mechanical Engineer at Kuhlman Die Casting of Monroe City for 33 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Hannibal and Emmette J. Shields Post # 55, American Legion. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Army Air Corp, 9th Photo Tech Squadron. Between 1940 and 1945 he received a good conduct metal and 5 bronze stars while serving in the campaigns of the European, African, Middle Eastern and Asiatic-Pacific Theatres. Russell enjoyed going to all kinds of sales and collecting antiques. Russell enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
