Gladys Lorraine Cooper, 79, of Kirksville, MO passed away Thursday evening January 30, 1997 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The daughter of Clarence and Bessie Bybee Wellman she was born September 27, 1917 in Connelsville, MO. On January 29, 1940 she was united in marriage to Charles Oscar Peterson who was killed in 1945 during World War II. On August 15, 1946 in Queen City, MO she married Rev. Archie Cooper and they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this year.
Surviving are her husband of Kirksville; one son, Charles Oscar Peterson, Jr. and his wife Jean of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Patricia Ann Peterson-Townsend of Riverside, CA; one step-daughter, Betty Lou Cooper-Eloe of Lincoln, NE; two sisters, one half-brother, two half-sisters, two grandchildren, thre step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one half-brother.
Mrs. Cooper was a life-long resident of Adair County and attended the Connelsville grade school and graduated from Novinger High School. She received her teaching credential from Kirksville Normal School and then taught at Ball Knob school prior to her first marriage. Since1946 Mrs. Cooper made her home in Kirksville. In addition to being a devboted homemaker, she was active in support of her second husbands ministry and of Freewill Baptist Foreign Missions. She was also an accomplished and award winning quilter and needleworker.
Funeral servics will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning February 5, 1997 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. The Rev. Ken Reiter and Rev. Daniel Eloe will officiate. Burial will be in the Jewell Cemetery near Kirksville, MO.
