Friday, June 21, 1935: Funeral services were held here last week for Hiram C. Asher, oldest resident of this place, who died at his home after a lingering illness. He was 86 years, 11 months and 4 days old at the time of his death and had lived here for the past 50 years. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Cecil Meadows of the Methodist church with interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mary Jewell, Mrs. Buck Burns, and Mrs. Lloyd Boothe; and two sons, Mirvel and Ruel, all of Cooter.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Mattie Asher, 76, of Cooter, who died Tuesday morning after an illness of a complication of diseases. The services were at the Baptist Church by Rev. T.C. Thorp, former pastor of the Cooter Baptist Church, with interment at the Mount Zion cemetery.
Mrs. Asher was born at Clay, Ky., but had lived at Cooter for more than fifty years, and she and her husband, the late H.C. Asher, were among the earliest settlers of this town.
She had been an active member of the Baptist Church for a number of years and was a charter member of the Rebecca Lodge since it was organized at Cooter.
Surviving her are five children, Mrs. Alpha Burns, Ruel and Mewl Asher and Mrs. Mary Jewel Lawson and Mrs. Macie Booth of Memphis, and also five grandchildren.
