Gertrude Evalea Shafer, 87 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday March 15, 2011 at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
The daughter of Claude and Stella(Collins)Myers, she was born August 26, 1941 in Chicago, IL she was united in marriage to Orville Shafer who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents and four brothers.
Evalea is survived by two sons, Ronald Shafer and wife Donna of Raytown, MO and Randall Shafer and wife Lana of Blue Springs, MO; five grandchildren, Megan, Justin, Brock and wife Beth, Tyler and Whitney; one great grandchild, Isaac; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evalea grew up in the Stahl community and graduated from the Novinger High School. She lived in Chicago for a short time before returning to the Novinger area where she and Orville farmed for many years. In the early 1970's they moved to Kirksville where she worked for Markham's, Standard Register and the Uptown Cafe.
She was a member Fellowship Baptist Church, J.O.Y., the Red Hats Group and was a former member of the Pure Air Baptist Church. She enjoyed walking, reading, working around the yard at home with her flowers and spending time with family and friends. She will always be remembered as a very caring person.
Funeral service will be held at 1 pm Sunday March 20, 2011 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Gibson officiating. Music will be provided by Aaron Yelton singing, "I'll Fly Away" and "In The Garden". Burial will be in the Lutz Cemetery in western Adair County. Pallbearers will be Brock Shafer, Justin Shafer, Tyler Shafer, Leon Shafer, Brent Shafer and Eddie Myers.
Visitation with the family will be from 12-1 pm Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Fellowship Baptist Church.
