1865 - 1928
Mrs. Alice M. Howe, a resident of Kirksville for the past eight years, died last night at 9:15 o'clock at the family home, 610 East McPherson street, after a two weeks illness with pneumonia. Mrs. Howe was 63 years of age.
Funeral services have not been definitely arranged, pending receipt of word from relatives at considerable distance from Kirksville.
Mr. and Mrs. Howe were residents of the Elmer vicinity for more than twenty years and have a large number of friends in Macon county who will join with the Kirksville friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
Mrs. Howe was born Aug. 24, 1865, in Vermillion [sic] County, Illinois, and was married there Jan. 1, 1891, to O.W. Howe. They moved to Missouri in 1897, and made their home near Elmer. Eight years ago they moved to Kirksville and purchased property here and have lived here since that time.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Howe leaves three children, Elmer [should be Harry] O. Howe, Mrs. Nellie Thurman and Horace [should be Forrest] E. Howe, all of whom reside in the Elmer neighborhood; eight grandchildren, and one brother, W.S. Alexander, of Elon College, North Carolina; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Francis, of Pythian, Ill., and Mrs. Bertha Packer, of Milliken, Colo[.] One son, Myrl W., died in France September 24, 1918.
Mrs. Howe was a member of the Baptist church and a splendid Christian woman whose death is a real loss to the community.
