Dr. Jimmy Callens, 74, of Heber Springs, Ark., died Sunday, July 17, 2011 in Memphis, Tenn.
Born November 3, 1936 in Pemiscot County, he is the son of the late Dee Alexander Callens and Esther Northern Callens. He was also preceded in death by one son, Greg Callens, and one grandson, Gregory "Hawk" Callens.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Whitener on October 18, 1958 in West Memphis, Ark.
He earned his Doctorate in Psychology and retired in 2005 having had a practice for many years in Pemiscot County.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Dr. Callens leaves his wife, Shirley Callens, of the home; two sons: John Bryan Callens and Hallie of Cooter and Derek Callens and Amanda of Heber Springs; one brother: Robert Callens, of Greenwood, Miss.; one sister, Helen Chism, of Florida; and six grandchildren: Chelsea Branham, Bailey Callens, Kathryn Callens, Colt Callens, Lexie Callens and Keira Jennings.
Funeral services for Dr. Callens were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19 at the Powell Funeral Home in Steele with Pastor Jan Dillard officiating.
Burial was at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele.
Pallbearers were John Callens, Pete Cooper, Mike Robinson, Derek Callens, Ron Lucas and Colt Callens.
Honorary pallbearers were John Story, Wendell Hoskins, Sr. and Warren Querry.
