1969 - 1974
Teresa Lynn Stewart died at the age of 4 when she run over by a school bus in front of her home.
She was the daughter of Terry and Bonnie (Bell) Stewart. She had two sisters, Melissa and Angela who were ages 2 and 6 months at the time of Teresa's death. She also had one half-brother, Jeffery Crow, age 7.
Teresa's grandparents were Caroll and Gladys Bell and Andrew and Jean Stewart, all of Kirksville, Mo. She also had two great-grandmothers, Bonnie Bell and Bonnie Beall both of Kirksville.
Teresa had attended Head Start the last two years of her life.
The accident occurred about 2:00 p.m. in the 700 block of West Patterson St. in Kirksville. Teresa and another child got off the bus and the bus driver continued on his route. Teresa's father saw his child lying in the street and ran to her. A passing motorist took them to the hospital. That motorist then found the bus and told the driver he had ran over a child. The driver said he had no idea. He called for a back-up driver, then went to the hospital where he was told that Teresa was deceased. He then went to the police station. At the time of the accident, it was not known if Teresa was run over by a wheel of the bus or struck by the bus. She reportedly died of head injuries.
