Funeral services for Lenora June Johnston, 74, West Plains, were Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnston died at 6:37 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at her home with her two daughters at her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 5, 1934, in West Plains, Mo., to Robert Fulton and Oma Coble Acklin. On Jan. 13, 1950, she was married at Salem, Ark., to Charles Leroy Johnston, who preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1994. Mrs. Johnston had been co-owner of Leroy's Honda for many years and before becoming ill, she worked at the Christos House Resale Shop. She was a strong, independent, hardworking lady who especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Johnston was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by three children, Connie Riley, husband, Jerry, of West Plains, Carolyn Girdley, husband, Lynn, of West Plains and Dale Johnston, wife, Amber, of League City, Texas; six grandchildren, Brian Simpson of Charlotte, N.C., Zachary Johnston, wife, Kristen, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Nicholas Johnston of San Diego, Calif., Angel Holman and husband, Allen, of Republic, Mo., Lacey Uphaus, husband, Brian, of West Plains and Cassie Hunter and fiance, Jake Short, of Kansas City, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Haden Holman, Kaylie Johnston and Ava Uphaus; four brothers, Donald Acklin, wife, Georgia, of West Plains, Robert Acklin, wife, Connie, of West Plains, Ronald Acklin, wife, Marsha, of Sedalia, Mo., and Danny Acklin, wife, Hazel, of West Plains; one sister, Helen Stanley, husband, Dick, of West Plains; brother-in-law, Steve Johnston, wife, Tammy, of West Plains; two sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Shannon, of West Plains and Mary Ann Barks, husband, Melvin, of West Plains; several nieces and nephews; and her special care giver, Cathy Downen. Her parents; stepmother, Marie Acklin; one grandson, Jeffrey Bruce Johnston; one sister, Judy Acklin; two brothers-in-law, Cecil Johnston and John Shannon; and two sisters-in-law, Freda Johnston and Alice Acklin, precede her in death. Burial was at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Riverways Hospice and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
