Mildred Loreta McCanse, daughter of Jesse Melton and Ina Dana Huntsman Browne, was born July 22, 1919, in Desdemona, Texas. She departed this life Thursday, September 23, 2004, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, two months, and one day.
On March 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Laurence Henry McCanse, and to this union one daughter was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laurence "Mac", on May 29, 1991; two brothers, Melton and Kenneth Browne; and a sister, Louise Forrest.
Mildred is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Randy Sutter, of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandchildren, Mitch and Kate Sutter; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was born and raised in Texas and graduated from Breckenridge High School, in Breckenridge, Texas, in the Class of 1936. She worked in the aircraft industry in California for a time during World War II, and happened to meet her future husband, Mac, while she was living there. Later, she and Mac were married in Miami Beach, Florida, while Mac was serving in the United States Air Force. They then made their home in Mount Vernon, Missouri for a short time before moving to West Plains, where Mac managed the Firestone Store until retiring in the mid 1980's. Throughout her life, Mildred was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family, and she and Mac lovingly raised their daughter. Soon after Mac's passing, Mildred moved to Lebanon, Missouri, to be near her daughter and her family.
Mildred made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of West Plains. After moving to Lebanon, she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church of Lebanon. She liked studying her Bible and was particularly interested in Bible prophecy and winning the lost to the Lord.
She was an amateur artist and worked in both oils and watercolors. She was a friendly person who never met a stranger, and was always generous and concerned for those in need. She loved her family dearly and was especially close to her daughter and grandchildren.
Mildred was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt, and was a kind and caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2004, in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will be in Howell Memorial Park, West Plains, Missouri. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 7:00 - 8:00 under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
