Helen K. Porter Grimmett was born in Frankford the daughter of John and Arphelia Acuff Porter. She grew up and attended country schools in the Frankford area. She married Harley Grimmett in Vandalia in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1961. Helen was a long-time and the oldest member of the Second Christian Church in Vandalia. As a member of the church, she was active in the Christian Woman's Fellowship and had sung in the Senior Choir. After moving to Vandalia with her husband in 1937, Helen worked for many, many years for Alfred Betts at both his furniture store and at his home.
Helen Katherine Porter Grimmett, 101, died at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. Funeral services were at the Second Christian Church in Vandalia and music was provided by Faith Tabernacle Choir. Interment was in Green Ridge Cemetery in Frankford. Reverend M. Faye Vaughn officiated.
