Clodeth E. Pery, 84, died Saturday, January 8, 2000, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville, Ark. She was born May 8, 1915, at Ridgely, Tenn., the daughter of the late William Shirley Guess and Annie Wofford Guess.
Toad, as she was called, and her sister, Barrett Holt, owned and operated Igloo Drive Inn for several years. On November 30, 1935, in Caruthersville, she was united in marriage to James W. Pery.
Pery was a member of First Baptist Church in Steele.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Pery of Steele; one son, Jackie Pery of Steele; two granddaughters, Cindy Brown of Steele and Vanessa Pery of Caruthersville; two great grandchildren, Jason Jarred and Allison Brown, both of Steele; other relatives, and lots of friends.
Services were held Tuesday, January 11, 2000, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Steele, with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

James William Pery, 95, of Steele, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at the River Oaks Care Center in Steele.
Born Dec. 16, 1914, he is the son of the late Amos H. Pery and Auburn Allie Davidson Pery. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Glinnie H. Pery and one grandson, Jason Pery Jarred.
James was united in marriage to Clodeth Elizabeth Guess on Nov. 30, 1935 in Caruthersville. She preceded him in death.
He graduated top of his class at Caruthersville High School in 1933, was a lifelong farmer, served his country in the National Guard, a member of the Kiwanis Club and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steele.
Mr. Pery leaves one son, Jackie D. Pery and his wife Alice, of Steele; One brother, Harold Pery and his wife, Juanita, of Caruthersville; Two granddaughters; Cindy Pery Brown and Vanessa Pery, both of Steele; One great-granddaughter, Allyson Brown, of Steele; and A host of family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Pery were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the First Baptist Church in Steele with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating.
Burial was at the Mr. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Faith Funeral Service of Manila, Ark., in charge of services.
Pallbearers will be James Harold Pery, Clint Pery, Patrick Pery, Barry Riddick, Joe Ben Baxter and Jim Stewart.
