Graveside services for Charles Russell Stewart Jr., 89, West Plains, were Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Stewart died at 9:43 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at West Vue Nursing Center. He was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Tulsa, Okla., to Charles Russell Stewart Sr. and Katie Romie Conner Stewart. On June 15, 1941, he was married at Tulsa, Okla., to Ruth Taylor, who preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 2003. Mr. Stewart was a veteran, having served with the 45th Division, 160th Field Battalion of the U.S. Army during World War II. For years, he was in the construction business and at one time, owned a fishing dock on the White River. Mr. Stewart loved the outdoors, especially fishing; he spent many hours on the lakes and rivers. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, West Plains, Mo.; he loved his church family, especially the children. He is survived by one son, Charles R. Stewart III and wife, Judy, West Plains; one grandchild, Charlene McKee, husband, Craig, Caulfield, Mo.; two great-grandsons, Cody and Chad McKee; one brother, Kenneth Stewart, wife, Hazel, Owasso, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Stewart, Flippin, Ark., and Blanche Stewart, Tulsa, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, his wife of 62 years, and three brothers, Cecil, Lee and Doug Stewart, precede him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
