Funeral service for Mrs. Esta Modena DeVaughn, 87, was held Friday, October 10, 1980, at the First Baptist Church in Steele. Rev. James F. McCrary officiated.

Mrs. DeVaughn was born January 24, 1893, at Pontotoc, Miss. and died October 8, 1980 at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steele.

The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Johnson, she was united in marriage to Edgar DeVaughn at Pontotoc. Her husband, a daughter, Louise, and a son. A.P. Wilbur, preceded her in death.

She leaves one son, James E. DeVaughn, of Steele; three granddaughters, Mrs. Kay Hicks of Cottonwood Point, Mo., Mrs. Sheila Van Gilder of Cleveland, Ohio, and Miss Tina DeVaughn of Steele; two grandsons, David and Mark DeVaughn of Steele; one brother, Ira N. Johnson of Seattle, Wash.; half-brothers, George Johnson of Pontotoc and Alec Johnson of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Zelpha Wilder of Pontotoc and Mrs. Mae Hammond of Florida.

Pallbearers were Jack Caruthers, Charles Shubert, Bobby Coleman, Butch Matthews, Danny Lacer, and Bob Horton.

Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
