James F. Patterson, 77, long-time resident of Steele, died at the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti August 10, 1967.

Mr. Patterson was a retired railroad employee, having been a section foreman building railroads throughout this locality, serving until his retirement in 1953.

An active member of the Baptist Church since 1920, Mr. Patterson was Sunday School Superintendent at First Baptist Church for 20 years and was also a deacon there.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star, and had served as Mayor of Steele as well as on the board of aldermen for several years. He had lived in this community for 53 years.

Born in Bloomfield, Mo., March 16, 1890, he was the son of Lee and Martha Corbin Patterson.

Services were held for Mr. Patterson August 12 at the First Baptist Church in Steele, Rev. James F. McCrary officiating.

Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home in charge.

Pall bearers were T.A. Haggard, George Cooke, Jack Brooks, Joe Gallaher, Thelbert Bishop, John F. Holmes, Kyle Lollar, and Lewis Rogers.

Mr. Patterson leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth Patterson of Steele; two daughters, Mrs. Naomi Britton of McGehee, Ark., and Mrs. Thelma Hastings, Steele; and a son, Ralph Patterson of Memphis.

Ms. Ruth Patterson, an active member of the Baptist Church for many years, died Saturday, February 3.
Funeral services were conducted February 5 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Steele with the Rev. James McCrary officiating.
The widow of the late James Franklin Patterson, she was born October 24, 1891, in Carmine, Ill.
She leaves one son, Ralph Lee Patterson, Memphis; two daughters, Naomi Britton, McGhee, Ark., and Thelma Hastings, Steele; one sister, Emma Koche of Murphyboro, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with the German-Aumon Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
