Steele, Mo.--Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon for George H. Polk who died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Shirley Smith. The services, which were held at the home of his daughter, were conducted by the Rev. H.S. Holley and interment was made in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
Mr. Polk, who was 69 years of age, had been sick for some time and asked to be returned to the home of his daughter in Steele three days before his death. He was brought here from Doniphan, where he and his wife have been living for the past three years.
Born in Tennessee, he moved to this vicinity when a small boy and took active part in the development of Steele. He was in the mercantile and farming business for many years. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 16, 1940.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mollie Polk, a son, Gene Polk, and the daughter, Mrs. Smith, all of Steele; three grandaughters, a sister, and other relatives.

Mrs. Mollie V. Polk, 68 years of age, died at her home in Steele Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, of heart disease. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. J.W. Cunningham and Rev. J.S. Holley in the Baptist church at Steele. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
Mrs. Polk, the widow of G.H. Polk, was born in Cerro Gordo, Tenn., Jan. 6, 1873, and had lived in this community for the past 40 years.
