James Perry Vickrey was born April 21, 1884, in Hardin County, near Saltillo, Tenn., and passed away December 16, 1939. He attended the University of Tennessee medical school for a time but during the World War circumstances made it necessary for him to seek employment and later finish his medical education at St. Louis University. He was a self-made man, and accomplished his medical education through hardships. Prior to moving to Steele eight years ago with his family and establishing an office here, he practiced medicine at Braggadocio. He was a well known and successful physician, and also owned and operated considerable farm and timber land in the west part of the county. He was coroner of Pemiscot County from 1928 to 1932.
Deceased was married to Miss Della Meek of Morris Chapel, Tenn., on November 2, 1913. To this union were born two children, a daughter, Helen, who is an instructor in Steele high school and a son, James Alton, a student in Steele High School.
He is survived by his wife, their daughter and son, also by three brothers, Will of Broken Arrow, Okla., Tate of Morris Chapel, Tenn., and Rafe, of Deering, Mo., also a sister, Mrs. Ben Steele, of Memphis, Tenn., and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Steele Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H.S. Holley, pastor. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Underaking Co. in charge.

Mrs. Della Elizabeth Vickrey, a pioneer resident of Steele, died last Sunday at the age of 53.
Mrs. Vickrey had endeared herself in the hearts of a multitude of people of this entire section during her many years residence here. She was the wife of the late Dr. James Perry Vickrey, who practiced medicine here for years before his untimely death about five years ago.
Dr. and Mrs. Vickrey moved to Steele in February, 1932, from the Braggadocio community, where they had resided since their marriage November 2, 1913.
She was born at Morris Chapel, Hardin County, Tenn., October 26, 1889. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 11, and was a member of the Methodist Church since 1922.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church here with the Rev. Marvin Niblack officiating.
Pallbearers were Elmer Bullock, Carl Sheeley, Clark Frame, Frank Huffman, D.I. Clarke,and Jack Dowdy.
She is survived by two children, Mrs. Helen Rutledge and James Alton Vickrey; her mother, Mrs. Dora Meeks; two sisters, Mrs. Dewey Frank and Mrs. Clyde Bullock of Bakersville; and a host of other friends and relatives who mourn her passing.
