Funeral services for Veleta Pratt Barnes were held Thursday, June 1, 1972, at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Steele with the Rev. Robert Haden officiating.
Born August 13,1922, at Bono, Ark., she died May 30 at Chicksawba Hospital in Blytheville at the age of 49. She was united in marriage to Cecil Barnes on Easter Sunday, April 15, 1951, at Jonesboro.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Barnes was a member of the South Pemiscot public school faculty.
An active member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church until her recent illness, she first joined the Bono Methodist Church and was baptized at the age of 11. She later transferred to the First Methodist Church in Jonesboro where she taught a class of seven-year olds in Sunday School.
She leaves her widower, Cecil Barnes; one daughter, Melanie, of the home; her mother, Lena Pratt of Jonesboro; three brothers, Hillis Pratt and Hardy Pratt, both of Jonesboro, and Pink B. Pratt of Memphis; four sisters, Vida Mae Pool and Venora Crump of Jonesboro, Velcine Howard of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Vera Boyles of Houston, Tex.
Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Stan Avis, Howard Smith, Richard Harris, Jerry Graham, Joe Curry and Barry Ray.
