The death of Odus Arthur Duniven occurred December 26 at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis. After seventy-six years of fruitful living, Mr. Duniven succumbed to an illness from which had become worse when he was taken to the hospital Friday.
Funeral services were held at the Steele Methodist Church Sunday, conducted by Rev. Harold Thompson and Rev. R.H. Zumalt.
"Happy" as he was called by the many friends whom he had made during his life in this community, was born March 14, 1881 in Steele. He was married to Cora Ella Griggs in 1903 who preceded him in death in 1922.
In 1925 he and Beatrice Lawrence Sandlin, who survives him, were united in marriage.
Other survivors are two sons, Woodrow and Joe Louis Duniven of Steele; three daughters, Mrs. Amber Maxwell, Campbell, Mrs. Nettie Burns, Hornersville, Mrs. Grace Rabb, Memphis; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Together with these relatives, "Happy" Duniven leaves the many friends who gave him that name which speaks of the friendship and warmth he felt for his fellow man.
Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home of Steele and John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti in charge.
